February 14th, 2023 will be the fifth year of losing 17 of our students and staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Many families, friends, and members of the community are still heart-broken about the tragedy that took place.

Last week while I was participating in PT (Physical Training) from JROTC a code red was called. We rushed into the classroom and hid in the closet to seek security from this unidentified individual. Thankfully, the situation was handled efficiently by police and school security which provided reassurance. During the lockdown some students were anxious, and panicking about the circumstances knowing that a mass shooting took place in our school.
I am in the JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) program for Stoneman Douglas, and we take safety as our top priority so we can safeguard our students while having fun. Three students from our JROTC program were killed during the mass shooting at our high school almost 5 years ago. In addition, ALYSSA ALHADEFF was a freshman who was tragically killed that day. Her parents started an organization called Make Our School Safe.
ALYSSA’S parents have been dedicated to improving the safety of schools nationwide.
As a student of Stoneman Douglas, I am starting a fundraiser for Country Hills Elementary School, and I am seeking your support to make it possible. It is my mission to make schools a safer environment for students to enhance knowledge, socialize, and form relationships between other students and teachers.
